I'm thiking of following the Cronz into world of watts. Any thoughts on getting the Power Tap and which one? My IT guy says it will bump you up 3mph come game time.
I feel dumb for actually saying this, but I don't really understand the watts thing. I know it is a measure of your output which I think is calculated by speed and something else like gear or something, but not sure what the benefits are. Cronz, are you a watts guy? I think I may need to google this.
BMG - you essentially explained power. The theory is that power (watts) is what it is whereas HR is influenced by so many other things (coffee, sleep, stress, humidity). Power is supposed to be a more pure measure. Remember one of the blogs on IMWI that was posted? The guy said he knew he could carry XXX watts for the race - that is the idea.
And there is one on MN Tri club built in for $1,100.
FYI- Cyclops, among others, are the cadillacs of these deals. If you buy a Polar or and ibike, they are as cheap as $500-$700. But, from my understanding, the technology is not as reliable. However, I did read a review of the Polar one somewhere that indicated that it was "surprisingly accurate". If you are truly considering one, I would research the hell out of them for the investment.

You are going to look like a an amateur if you get the power meter and then don't get the aero helmet as well.

BTW, I just googled power taps, and the device that is pictured on this post retails for $1,499. Wow.
