I got a heart rate monitor for Christmas and I've never used one before. Do you guys wear yours for every workout? Also, I'm wondering if you wear them in the pool, I swam today but didn't wear it because I wasn't sure.
Happy Training.

I wear it for nearly every w/o except swimming. I would do that for sure as you get used to it - it will help you understand what 140 means, what 150 means (to you).
I likewise wear mine with every one of my workouts. You learn cool things. Like why you all of a sudden feel shitty after you are 170+ for over a few minutes. I do not wear mine in the pool. I did once, and it didn't work very well, plus, I more use time and distance alone when I'm in the pool. The HR monitor is one of the best gadgety things I have. And if you plan on taking a spin class, they are pretty much a necessity.
I didn't wear it from Timberman-Jan 1, but will wear it every workout, primarily for logging purposes. It is a helpful tool, although Kate informs me that there is a debate amongst Sports Medicine professionals (what do they know?) about how useful it is, with things like cardiac drift and diet, etc. That is why the power meters are becoming more popular. But overall, it gives you a good idea of what your effort is, which is what is important.
I don't swim with it either. Although it wouldn't be a bad idea to use it when we start open water swims in the spring, to get use to the feel of it under your wetsuit. If there is one thing that you should know is that your bike and run MHR will probably be different. It took me a few times of nearly passing out on the bike to figure that out.
